Akrude is a musical duo: Jeph Jerman and Jeff Sampson . Their working history goes back to 1983, when they collaborated on the improvised drone epic, “An Evening Wander”. Since then, they’ve produced psychologically edgy pieces like “Shards”, lounge-laments like “One Face Explains the Other”, trippy space excursions like “Angel Radio Morse Clouds”, and a variety of other experiments in a variety of other styles. Those tracks are currently only available on Jeff’s Tha Don series of CDs.

Over the years, Jeph has become more and more interested in field recordings and improvising with homemade and/or “found” instruments. In live settings, he’s more apt to use marbles, pine cones, stones, and flavored jelly beans to create with than he is a drum set or guitar. His reputation with fans and practitioners of experimental music designed for applied listening is quite significant.

Meanwhile, Jeff has experimented with noise, free improvisation, nearly every rock style imaginable, and has built a quantifiable fan base with his solo and collaborative electronic/ambient music.

In 2002, Akrude produced a CD of new work called Predetermined by Hindsight. Using primarily acoustic sound sources, they fashioned two half-hour pieces designed outside normal song structures while simultaneously sounding familiar and comfortable. It’s rather like a symphonic version of the type of music Jeph produces on his own. The CD was released by Burning Shirt and is available through CD Baby.
